Somebody's Monday

It's somebody's monday somewhere. This one is for my mate Corey whose shift back in the mines starts today. Hope the mighty lefts of WA sustain you for another 14 days of 14 hour days.

Tuesday Tech - Shark!

Yep there's nothing like having a surf (or floating around with a camera) on a rainy day to conjure images of men in grey suits, noahs, brucey's or whatever you call sharks in your part of the brineyverse.
Luckily the good folk at Electronic Shark Defense Systems think they might have something to improve your survival odds. The device on their site looks like a legrope attachment and sits about the same position.
No I'm not being paid to throw this stuff out there, so please no hate mail.

Sprouting (daily)

Due to ill health in the modern cave-de-brine, I'll be neglecting my blogging duties today.
Instead i'd like to promote the wonderful work of the creative folks at Sprout Daily. Get on their mail list. Buy their prints. Stimulate the creative economy. That's the road to world peace, folks.

Late (cheating)

"With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace
And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace
And your basement clothes and your hollow face
Who among them can think he could outguess you ?
With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims
And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns
Who among them would try to impress you ?"
from Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Bob Dylan
I'm late posting today as I am fully sick with some sort of lung, throat and ear infection that has resulted in the deforestation of the Amazon basin to supply me with tissues. I'll be spending the day dozing and riding perfect waves in my dreams. Might even bust out some old skool Dylan (above) to keep my spirits up. For somebody with a bad singing voice, he sure can pull an evocative tune together.
Hopefully, the lameness of my existence described above will excuse the blatant cheating of re-posting a couple of images I posted a few years back. Sorry but I'm just too exhausted to come up with anything original today. (Dedicated to the sad eyed lady of the lowlands)

Just Wondering

Is it just me, or does the surf feel less crowded on bleak overcast days like today?

Tuesday Tech

Where did the last couple of hours go? What was in my wake up coffee? The hours seem to have melted in this summery furnace masquerading as dawn. Was I abducted by a UFO for some sort of intergalactic pranking? No it was a bad case of that deadly little app called Instagram - photoshop style algorithms in a free hand held app. Are you listening Mr Adobe? Yes it's lo-fi. But that's part of the wow factor - surprisingly great results. Instantly. No it's not like Polaroid. Different but good. Like a quiver - different tools for different "looks".
My "real serious" (read "outrageously-expensive-and-superseded-within-a-year") camera is getting jealous. And all those rolls of film for the analogue trio are frying in this stinking heat. Apart from that, it's plain fun. Like riding a stupidly long board on a stupidly small wave. There's no reo, barrel action, but it's FUN. Bring on the video version, I say.
It's only a matter of time until the hordes of iPhones roaming the planet join their evolutionary cousins the GoPro and the Contour re-entering the primordial brine. Aqua Tek are taking up the challenge of developing what we all will later say was "an obvious gap in the market" - a rugged, waterproof iPhone case with a solar recharger on the back. And way more surfer-friendly than say an underwater iPad3 case. I'm happy to road test it, so long as I can play music via underwater headphones. . .
"Ahhh, but remember that the city is a funny place
Something like a circus or a sewer
And just remember different people have peculiar tastes"
from the Lou Reed song Coney Island Baby 1975
