Brine Time

I started my first blog - Brine Time - about five years ago as a response to my brother's passing and that gut wrenching grief that can't be explained in words or pictures.  I guess at the back of my mind, mixed in with all those emotions, was the cold hard reality that we're all mortal. Me included.

Despite our mortality,  photography enables the moments we witnessed along the paths we trekked, to live a little longer, to be witnessed again years, or decades later by the generations that follow us. That's not why I take photos. It's just a side benefit.

After 793 posts, the IT gods advised that I had filled my quota of free space on Brne Time. Hence this thing called Modyssey (modern + odyssey) Click here to check out my first blog. Peace to you and your tribe.

#nikonosproject

Photo below is a collaboration between two different cameras with two different lenses in two different places and the wonderful tech of Photoshop Elements (which came for free with my scanner - can't afford the Real Photoshop and am precious about stealing as should any creative be).

The sign and trees are near Brunswick Heads shot from the car while travelling south to Byron Bay. As the usual highway driver, I always wanted to get this shot but never stopped...rule one, stop and get the shot. 

But this day I was the passenger. We didn't stop, but I gave the Nikonos II and 35mm len's "manual-everything" combo my best guess.

The surf shot was captured on the Sunny Coast with a Nikonos V + 80mm combo (a tricky lens to use while treading water in the surf). 

But the real point of this post is to highlight the analogue wonders of the crew over at #nikonosproject. Great to see the next generation of surf shooters embracing the awesome analogue technology (is that a tautology, Rebecca?) of the last century.

Caffeine, Sheep and Mid-day Sharks

With the surf looking small to nothing tomorrow, it could be a great chance to avoid the mowing, the pruning, the annual tax return mess and head to the Teneriffe Festival in the Big Smoke to eat, drink, watch the runnng of the sheep (real animals, not politicians) or to catch Amy Shark (midday), The Belligerents, Caffeine and a bunch of other lesser known but hugely entertainng musicians. So long ago

This 35mm film shot was taken so long ago that I can't remember. The camera was a Nikonos V, which I used in the mid to late 80's. Interestingly, those old Kodak transparencies still hold their colour. Not sure that I will be able to say the same about digital in 30 years time, with all the format and constant compatability upgrading required every other year - USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, Lightning Bolt . . .
